Original Works, Arrangements, and Copy Work
Original Compositions:
Original compositions are an excellent way to celebrate a person, place, or time in your organization. Please consider the following steps of the commissioning process:
1. Pre-Planning: How long should the piece be? What kind of ensemble? Is this the piece celebrating a special occasion? Mourning a loss? When do you need the score for the first rehearsal?
2. Contact Mr. Kitson to discuss your project. Send a follow-up letter including all the negotiated details (length, price, etc.).
3. Cost is based on length and instrumentation. For example: A two minute a cappella choral work will cost less than a 10 minute choral work with full orchestra.
4. As a general rule. half of the fee is paid to begin the work. The other half is paid on delivery of the score.
5. Mr. Kitson retains the right to publish any commissioned works (with credit to the commissioning organization).
Arrangements:
Commissioning an arrangement is much like commissioning an original work. Mr. Kitson will need to know the length, ensemble to be used, and date of the first rehearsal.Cost is based on the length of the piece, the ensemble used, and the difficulty of transition from the source to the arrangement. Large arrangements are paid like commissions (half to begin the work, and half on delivery). Smaller works may be paid on delivery.
Important: You must have the copyright of the original (source) work, have a letter of release from the copyright owner, or it must be in the public domain. Please contact Mr. Kitson about how to acquire the rights to any piece(s) you would like to have arranged.
Copy Work and Rehearsal Tracks:
Mr. Kitson is available on a very limited basis for musical copy work. Cost is based on the length of the piece, difficulty/level of detail of the job, and amount of time until the score is needed. Rehearsal tracks (part-by-part) can be made for choral octavos and delivered in MP3 format (other formats available). Large copy/rehearsal jobs will need to be paid like commissions (half to begin the work and half on delivery). Small orders may be paid on delivery. Rush orders will be charged extra.
